Back pain relief and spinal cord stimulators – Dr. Steve Falowski
If you or someone you know is living with chronic pain, there is definitely hope for effective pain relief. Dr. Ferguson hosts returning guest Dr. Steve Falowski as they discuss spinal cord stimulators. Which ones work better, how they work, and the rapid improvements in spinal cord stimulator technology over the past five years.
Spinal cord stimulators are most often used by patients with chronic pain, such as those suffering from chronic back pain, CRPS, etc. The stimulators apply electric pulses directly to the spinal cord and thereby reduce the level of pain experienced by the patient.
Dr. Falowski explains how the different types of spinal cord stimulators work, and where the current research on the topic is focused. This is an area of intense research and the results are very promising.
In recent studies on patients who have a “virgin back” (i.e. have never had back surgery), the use of spinal cord stimulators often results in better pain relief than back surgery. Remember, you can try out a spinal cord stimulator to see if it works but you can’t try out a back surgery!
To learn more about spinal cord stimulators, speak with your primary pain care provider or request to see a pain management specialist.
Dr. Falowski received his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and practices at the Argires Marotti Neurosurgical Associates of Lancaster, located at 160 N Pointe Blvd Suite 200, Lancaster, PA 17601
